Each year, hurricane season returns to the Atlantic. Many of its most powerful storms begin as tropical waves off the coast of West Africa before crossing the ocean toward the Caribbean. Hurricane season and Carnival unfold side by side – one a season of uncertainty, the other a season of celebration – yet both have shaped how communities across the African diaspora prepare, remember, create, and gather.

In the lead-up to New York's West Indian Day Parade, Hurricane Season brings together artists, filmmakers, curators, and cultural thinkers for an evening of film, conversation, sound, and music exploring the relationship between climate, culture, and memory.

What remains after a storm has passed? How do landscapes, bodies, and communities carry the memories of environmental and historical upheaval? And how do communities transform recurring uncertainty into movement, artistic expression, and collective celebration?
